OUR STORY
A movement toward Radical Rebalancing through Connection to Self, Connection to Others, and Connection to Earth.
The Human Connection was born from a powerful realization: disconnection is the root cause of many of the social, economic, and health-related issues we face.
Our founder, Selam Hailu, became attuned to this deeper truth while pursuing a PhD in Clinical Psychology—realizing that what is often treated as isolated issues are in fact symptoms of a larger culture of disconnection. Meanwhile, in Richmond, Virginia—where she studied—the visible remnants of segregation made it clear that systemic disconnection was still shaping entire communities.

In 2018, Selam and a small group of thinkers, creators, and community builders came together around this shared awareness: disconnection—systemic and invisible—was quietly shaping lives, institutions, and opportunities.

Rather than continuing to patch the symptoms, we decided to create something radically different: a model that prevents fragmentation by designing for connection from the start. A system that would help us remember what we’ve always known—that wellness, justice, and prosperity are possible when people are truly seen, supported, and connected.

What began as a moment of clarity has evolved into a vibrant, growing community. Today, The Human Connection is a living, evolving space where people ask bold questions, design connection-centered solutions, and collaborate across disciplines, industries, and lived experiences.
Through our two-part model—a Think Tank for idea incubation and a Connection Company for hands-on support—we bring this vision to life, one connection at a time.
